This successful programme is now recognised in the UK and Europe and is endorsed by the Royal College of Midwives (RCM)
Where did the idea for Aquafusion come from?
Aquafusion was developed in the early 1980s by Christine who was a Personal Trainer and tutor for the YMCA. When she found out she was pregnant with twins she was unable to find exercises and pregnancy classes and felt frustrated at not being able to maintain her fitness. She approached physiotherapists and midwives and together they developed a programme of Aquanatal courses which were successfully run throughout the Leeds area. The programme was initially approved by the REP’s but as the programme developed Christine applied to the RCM for approval. That approval remains to this day. Aquafusion has trained hundreds of Midwives who are now running successful classes in the UK and abroad.
Is exercise safe during pregnancy?
RMC and Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (www.RCOG.org.uk) state that “The guidelines suggest that keeping active during pregnancy leads to fewer complications, better physical and emotional wellness for the mother and better outcomes for the baby.” To read more about their suggestions click here.
Aquanatal exercise is a low impact form of exercise and the buoyancy and support of the water makes sure that the class is an enjoyable and a safe way to remain active in pregnancy. Aquanatal classes are also very social and a great way to meet other expectant mums.
