‘Spotlight On A Past Modern Pilates Student’

It’s here again! Welcome to our ‘Spotlight’ piece.  We love to hear how people are getting on after completing their training with us.  Kate Woolger qualified with us in 2002 and has continued to teach Pilates every since.  Kate goes on to say.

“I have been teaching Pilates since 2002 – 17 years!  I entered the fitness industry with my Exercise to Music qualification in 1991 after giving up Ballet and Modern dance and began teaching a range of classes, updating my qualifications and learning all the time, I was one of the first Body Pump instructors in the UK.

In 2001 I partially dislocated my shoulder which after several physio appointments they wanted to operate on.  I wanted to try one last time with physio and found a physio who just happened to have finished her Pilates training – after several months under her wing my shoulder got better and better and no operation was needed and that’s when I decided to add Pilates to my repertoire and haven’t looked back!

I found the Modern Pilates course so informative and fun, it was taught in an easy to understand format – even the anatomy which is not my strongest subject was easy to understand and get a grasp on.  I originally did a course with another provider but wanted a more thorough course to further my knowledge and found Modern Pilates – I think I was on one of their first courses in 2002.

I love helping people and seeing the progression that they make.  I get a lot of referrals from an osteopath who is an advocate of Pilates and says ‘he can fix people but they need to maintain it with Pilates’.  My fitness teaching has always my passion and I have carried it on along side my Property Management business, since having children I have grown my teaching practice and only teach Pilates and leave more of the property management to my husband.

I now teach 5 classes a week along with many  1-2-1 sessions.  I teach a range of ages, I think my oldest client is just over 80 and a few of my participants have been with me for over 10 years.  I love what I do and always feel better after a class and hope my participants do too.”
