Is this the course for you?

This Gym Instructor course is studied via blended and face to face learning. Once you have booked your place you will receive our blended learning pack which covers all the anatomy and physiology related to your course. This must be studied prior to attending the Gym Instructor course to give yourself the best possible opportunity of being successful. Once you are on the course your tutor will guide and support you through all the practical elements you require to become familiar with working in a gym environment.

This Gym Instructor course will provide you with all the skills and knowledge you need to teach clients on a broad range of cardiovascular machines, fixed resistance machines and free weights on either a one-to-one basis or in small groups. You will learn how to induct, plan, supervise and monitor clients within a gym environment. A motivating and enthusiastic personality is essential for this Gym Instructor course.

Prerequisites for this course:

You must be:

  • Over 16
  • Currently attending a gym
  • Moderately fit
  • Committed to studying and attending all the course
  • Committed to undertake home study and assignments

  • Anatomy and physiology related to fitness
  • Principles of safe and effective exercise
  • Approaches to aerobic training
  • Approaches to resistance training
  • Practical Teaching and Motivational Techniques
  • Gym inductions
  • Programme Planning
  • Health & Safety and Introduction to First Aid
  • Customer Care

Course assessment format:

The Assessment for this course consists of:

  • Practical assessment within a gym environment (plan, teach and evaluate)
  • Multiple choice theory paper (NVQ 2)
  • Completion of worksheets

Additional Information on this course:

For qualified Studio Instructors (ETM) who hold Level 2 knowledge base with CYQ, Premier etc. you do not need to undertake the home study/blended learning element of the course.

Please be aware that you will need to allow a minimum of 50 hours to study at home in your own time. We strongly recommend that you alllow at least 4 weeks prior to the course commencing to complete your pre course studying.

Successful completion leads to CYQ Certificate in Fitness Instructing Level 2 ‘Gym’
