Pilates has two main groups, Classical Pilates and Contemporary Pilates. Courses fall into either of these two catagories.
What is the difference between Classical and Contemporary Pilates?
Classical Pilates style follows as closely as possible to Joseph Pilate's original work, his exercise and the order in which they were performed. However, this is open to variations on the exact order of the exercises.
Contemporary Pilates is based partly on Joseph Pilate's work but with modification to the exercises so that they fit with modern research with a heavy influence from physical therapy and bio-mechanics. Many of the exercises remain the same but allowences are made for injury rehabilitation and creativity by the teacher.
What is Modern Pilates Training?
Our unique 'clinical' and contemporary approach to Pilates training was created by Cherry Baker, Christine North-Minchella BSc and Christopher Norris MSc MCSP. Our method of Pilates looks at functional stability, postural alignment, core stability and modifications of the original works of Joseph Pilates. This combination of all approaches brings you the respected Modern 'clinical' Pilates training programmes.
Modern Pilates is based on the original works of German-born Joseph Pilates who designed a series of exercises that used both mental and physical techniques to condition the body. His methods were used primarily by dancers however, in recent years these methods have been introduced into the health and filtness industry.
Many things have changed since Joseph Pilates first developed his techniques. We believe that our training programmes bring the best of his techniques into the 21st Century by combining his principles with all the recent research and knowledge we have about finess, exercise and core stability. Our unique exercises have been devised in conjunction with physiotherapists to bring specific exercises that look at posture, back, hip and knee stability and strength while still working on core function. We have created a unique scientific and educationally sound programme for finess and health professionals.
Our unique approach is taught by physiotherapists and clinical Pilates practitioners. This will give you a sound and solid foundation to be successful as a Modern Pilates teacher.
