We are a Pilates, Fitness and Aqua educational training company. Originally started by award winning founder and Director of Training, Christine North-Minchella. She started her career with the YMCA as a tutor and assessor and ran Yorkshire Area Centre, which was awarded Centre of Excellence status. This eventually led her to set up her own training company, Professional Fitness & Education. Christine went on to fill an important role in pioneering the development of health and fitness and expand her knowledge into the specialist areas of Aqua-natal, pregnancy and older adults. Christine who along with Cherry Baker, set up Modern Pilates which was the first training organisation to gain CYQ approval to deliver Matwork Pilates. Modern Pilates were fundamental in helping CYQ to establish and set the standards for the Matwork course in the UK.
Our outstanding record of success is evidenced by the fact that our Director of Training, Christine North-Minchella, has been recognised as a leading innovator in the industry. In 2002 she received the Lesley Mowbray Award from YMCA Fitness Industry Training and in 2005 was awarded The Exceptional Achievement Award for Contribution to the Development of Health & Fitness Industry, awarded by Skills Active and REPs. All our tutors and physiotherapists are proactive in their field of delivery. They all run their own successful businesses which enables them to pass their valuable skills and knowledge onto our students. If you wish to change direction and begin a new career, we can inspire you to achieve your ambitions. You couldn't be in better, more qualified hands.
We are proud to deliver high quality recognised Pilates, Aqua-natal and fitness training programmes and workshops with a professional approach ensuring the experience is enjoyable for all students. We are recognised by YMCA Awards and the Royal College of Midwives. We are experts in the areas of Pregnancy, Older Adults and Clinical Pilates. How our students experience our courses is important to us and we ensure they are supported throughout to achieve their qualification. Each student is nurtured and treated as an individual to ensure they are successful. All students will proudly reach their full potential with our support before, during and after the training programme. Our Testimonials are testament to our high standard of delivery.
CHRISTINE NORTH - MINCHELLA - BSc Cert Ed. YMCA PTA, MP/CYQ Matwork Pilates
My career in fitness started with my love of sport and dance and led to undertaking a degree in Physical Activity Exercise and Health. I worked for the YMCA Training & Development for over 15 years as a Senior Development Officer, tutor and assessor and also worked for the RSA (now OCR) as an External Verifier.
In my 'early' teaching years I presented for Fitness Professionals, Exercise England and Leisure Plan Holidays. My passion for the fitness industry and education led me to set up Professional Fitness and Education with the sole aim of providing quality training courses in the North of England.
Although I primarily run the business these days I still believe in being proactive and lecture on some of the specialist personal trainer modules as well as practically teaching and undertaking personal training. In 2006 I was awarded the exceptional Achievement Award for my contribution to the health and fitness industry - a very proud moment. I am also a Pure Energy Select Presenter and write for magazines such as Fitness Professionals.
I have a great team of tutors and administration staff that have helped me to establish the name of Professional Fitness & Education as one the leading providers of fitness courses.

GRAEME BAXTER - Cert Ed YMCA Diploma, NVQ TDLB Assessor; MP/CYQ Matwork Pilates
My career started with 13 years in the Royal Engineers. As you can imagine fitness and sport were a huge part of Army life. In 1999 I decided to leave and become a 'civvy' personal trainer. I completed the Diploma in Health and Fitness at London Central YMCA and further modules in Modern Pilates, step, circuit and aqua with Northern Fitness. I was totally inspired by the tutors and their professional, friendly approach. This motivated me to complete teaching and assessing qualifications and I now work alongside those same tutors.
DEBBIE HOWELLS - Advanced Diploma Midwifery; Cert Ed; Assessor Award (CYQ); YMCA
Debbie began working and studying in the fitness industry 10 years ago. After completing various courses in aqua and studio exercise to music she then commenced her Midwifery training in 2000.
